Wadebridge Carnival returns this July

Organised by the carnival committee, a dedicated team of volunteers who spend each year discussing, planning and organising fundraisers and the carnival itself, Wadebridge Carnival is always a highlight of the local summer calendar. However, for the carnival to be able to continue in the future, people are being encouraged to join the committee to bring fresh ideas to the table.

Sandra and Jane are two members of the committee. Jane said: “All the businesses have been trying really hard to be proactive and ensure Wadebridge remains that vibrant destination. Alongside that there are the events, like the carnival. The carnival allows people to feel connected to the town; the more you get involved, the more you feel proud of this brilliant town.”

In addition to the appeal for committee members, it is hoped that lots of people from the community will join the carnival procession. Jane continued: “If you fancy a bit of fun with your friends or family, please join us. It doesn’t have to take hours, you could pull something together a couple of weeks before! It’s just a great chance for people to get together and support their local carnival.”

The annual carnival window competition will also be taking place between 13th and 27th July, reflecting the theme ‘Cornish myths and legends’. Carnival entries can also follow this theme, if they wish, or they can come up with their own unique idea.

Sandra added: “The carnival is a great chance to display your creativity.

“It’s an event that has shaped the town for years. Come along, watch the procession and support it - we want the streets to be alive with people!”

Carnival activities take place in the Jubilee Field all day on Saturday, 20th July, including circus skills workshops, a fun fair, family entertainment and food and drink stands. The procession will start at 7pm from the bowling club on Egloshayle Road, before making its way through town. Afterwards, the celebrations will continue in the Jubilee Field, and a magnificent fireworks display will be the cherry on top of an excellent day.

There will be three committee posts open after the 2024 carnival: chairman, vice-chairman and treasurer. If you are interested in filling one of the roles, or would like to volunteer your time in another capacity, please email info@wadebridgecarnival.co.uk
