Shopping local: Seasonal produce at your local markets

As autumn and winter approach, we thought it would be handy for you to note down when the markets will be taking place, so you can take advantage of all that lovely produce for as long as possible.

Some of the best produce can be acquired from local shops and markets. Luckily for us here in Wadebridge, we have some lovely markets that serve the community, whether you need to top up your fruit and veg for the week, or fancy picking up some delicious homemade treats that you just can’t find anywhere else.

The town has a long history of being a market town, and has had a weekly market in some form or another for many years.

Wadebridge Country Market takes place every Thursday at Wadebridge Town Hall on the Platt, 8.45am-12.30pm, and is Wadebridge’s longest serving weekly market. It is one of more than 100 country markets in England and Wales, and prides itself on offering local and seasonal goods throughout the year. It is a truly welcoming community hub at the heart of the town.

Offering everything from baked goods and sweet treats, to homegrown flowers, locally sourced honey and jar upon jar of chutneys and jams, this delightful local market has everything you need to make the most of local produce and crafts - ‘Cook, Craft, Grow’ is their slogan for a reason!

Their producers keep home cooking, growing and hand-crafted items at the heart of everything they do. The wide range of produce varies, depending on the season. With a prize winning meat producer, talented crafters and dedicated bakers, growers and cooks, the market gives the community the chance to ‘shop local’ and meet the faces behind the goods each week.

After a spot of shopping, there is always the chance to refuel in the cafe, serving hot drinks, bacon baps, homemade cakes and much more.

And if you’re looking for a fantastic way to get involved in your community, the market is looking for new cooks and bakers to join them - pop in for a chat!

The market will be closed on 5th December for the panto, and the final market of the year is 19th

December, reopening on 6th March 2025. Follow Wadebridge Country Market on Facebook.

Wadebridge Market Wednesday is a new market run by Wadebridge Chamber of Commerce, taking place every last Wednesday of the month in the town centre between 9am and 3pm. Giving local businesses the chance to set up their goods and connect with the community, the market offers everything from fresh fruit and veg, art, handmade jewellery, cakes and sweet treats and much more. Just some of the trader names you may recognise include The Vine, Estuary Textiles, Cornish Sea Salt, Sea Pink Studio, Cornish Country Cordials and Atlantic Distillery and Brewery, plus

many more.

The remaining date for 2024 is 25th September, but be sure to keep an eye out for any additional events towards the end of the year. www.visitwadebridge.co.uk/market
