This August Bank Holiday, Cornwall Folk Festival brings an exciting fusion of top national and regional contemporary folk music artists to Wadebridge.
With a low-cost entry and a fixed fee for families, the FAR Stage is the place to hang out during the day.
The popular Betjeman Sessions in the John Betjeman Centre welcome award-winning Cornish language songwriters Richard Trethewey and Annie Baylis on Friday. Sunday’s transcendent double-bill offers powerful songs of struggle and hope from England’s Reg Meuross and truly stunning vocals from Devon’s Detta Kenzie.
Wadebridge Town Hall concerts include Bristol’s bubbling Tarren, gutsy vocals from Daphne’s Flight, exquisite vocal harmony from Lady Maisery, and Cornwall’s brilliant Americana duo True Foxes.
And in a Friday afternoon outing at the Goods Shed, Cornish bards Mike O’Connor and Barbara Griggs weave compelling tales of Merlin and Cornish identity.
With all this plus free sessions in local pubs, morris dancers in the street and morning music workshops, the festival is a fun, long weekend that brings the best of folk to Cornwall and showcases Cornwall to the world, all in an intimate, mud-free town centre setting.
As several locals said after the 50th milestone festival last year: “It was like being on holiday in your own town!”
The 51st Cornwall Folk Festival runs from Thursday 22nd to Monday 26th August in Wadebridge. Full line-up and tickets from CornwallFolkFestival.com. Street music and sessions FREE, FAR Stage £5 per day or £10 per day for families. Betjeman Sessions and opening Nos Lowen £12, Town Hall double-bills £25, half-price for under 16s.
